Our Mission:

To protect, enhance, restore and revitalize the watershed through collaborative efforts that leverage external resources, work toward common goals, educate and engage community stakeholders, address natural resource issues, and support healthy ecosystems for future generations.

Over the past several years, the Trinity River Watershed Council has focused on improvements to salmon habitat, restoration of riparian areas, and fish passage improvements; as well as programs that target noxious weed control, water quality, and outdoor education. With this change, we can expand our focus to include other areas important to all residents of the watershed such as recreation, agriculture, and economic sustainability.

All members of the community are welcome to join the Trinity River Watershed Council to discuss ideas and plans for improving the health of our watershed. Individuals and existing groups are encouraged to participate, including:

  • Neighborhood associations
  • Trade groups
  • Utilities
  • Civic organizations
  • Ag related groups
  • Any group or individual with an interest in watershed issues

Current active members include representatives from:

  • Trinity County Resource Conservation District
  • US Forest Service
  • Yurok Tribe
  • Hoopa Tribe
  • Trinity River Restoration Program
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • Natural Resources Conservation Service
  • Watershed Research and Training Center
  • Any group or individual with an interest in watershed issues

What is a watershed council and what do we do?

Watershed councils are effective in the development and implementation of projects to maintain and rehabilitate the biological and physical processes in the watersheds for the benefit of their communities.

The Trinity River Watershed Council focuses on developing priorities and coordinating efforts for watershed projects. It also provides a forum for groups to share information relevant to the watershed and natural resources.

What are the goals and objectives of the program?

Under the current funding from the US Bureau of Reclamation, the TRWC coordinator will strive to:

  1. Enhance the participation of diverse stakeholders to form local solutions to address water management needs in the entire Trinity River Watershed and be as inclusive as possible of stakeholders in all geographic areas of the watershed;
  2. Develop project concepts that will benefit the health of the watershed through improved water quality and quantity, ecological resilience and conflict resolution efforts; and
  3. To develop a watershed restoration plan that will be a living, dynamic document.
